Vijayan inaugurates fifth edition of literary meet
The thought process and freedom of expression of students and the youth in the country cannot be curtailed as some political forces are attempting to. These forces are trying to take them back to the dark ages, Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, has said.
Inaugurating the fifth edition of the Kerala Literature Festival, the chief minister said, the new generation is one which reads, thinks and discerns a problem and on the basis of that reaches an opinion. Attempts are being made to rein in such discussions. This is a generation that cannot be stopped from reacting to the spectre of communalisation. He lauded the increasing popularity of Kerala Literature Festival, which he called a platform to engage. Pointing out that the slogan of the festival, ‘Conversations that matter, was very relevant in these times, Mr. Vijayan said democracy should not be destroyed, nobody should pay with their life for expressing their opinion, and that no Indian should flee their homeland.
“Nature is not for making profit. People are turning it into a profit-making thing. That’s why the climate change is one among the major problems we are facing, the chief minister said.
Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change, UAE, Mr. Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Mr. MA Yusuffali, chairman of LuLu Group, Mr. S. Sambasiva, District Collector, Mr. K Sachidanandan, poet and director of the festival, Mr. M. Mukundan, writer, Mr. Ravi Decee, among others, graced the occasion.
